Everyone knows that just about every adult has to deal with unwanted hair somewhere on their body. Some people
choose to use temporary treatments which must be either daily or at least every couple days. I know a few methods
of hair removal that I can share.
"I have found that choosing the correct cream does make a difference in how your skin feels after you shave"
Shaving
Shaving is the most common of temporary of temporary hair removal. This method has been used for years. I find
that it is easy and fast as well as effective. One of the advantages of shaving that I have noticed is that it is
very inexpensive. It can be done right at home and it is very simple. While using a razor with a metal blade and
shaving cream, it cuts your hair off at the skin’s surface.
There are shaving creams and gels on the market which are specifically made for a woman’s skin or a mans. I have
found that choosing the correct cream does make a difference in how your skin feels after you shave. The
disadvantage of this method is that the effects last for only a short time making it necessary to shave daily or
every few days. Shaving can also cause a cut or irritation known as “razor burn.” Shaving can also cause an ingrown
hair, mostly on a woman's “bikini area” and I have found can be painful. One secret that I have learned over the
years when shaving my bikini area is to put apply a small amount of deodorant on the area that was shaved. This can
help to avoid irritation. It is important when shaving that you change the blade often. This will avoid irritation
and also make shaving more effective.
Depilatory Creams
Another very popular form of hair removal which I have found very convenient is the use of cream depilatories.
This is a chemical cream which dissolves the hair at the skin’s surface. This method is inexpensive and painless.
It helps to reduce the chance of razor burn. The disadvantage of this product is that it should be done every few
days and it has ingredients which can be harmful to the skin causing rashes or irritation. If you are someone with
sensitive skin, you should avoid these creams. There are several brands on the market to choose from. The strong,
unpleasant odor of these products is a disadvantage that I find to be a problem.
"A trick that I have discovered for after waxing is to apply aloe vera lotion to the area waxed after to help
remove excess wax and to keep the irritation at a minimum"
Waxing
This is a process where hot wax is applied to the skin. This is a temporary process which must be repeated at least
once every few weeks to a month. I find that it is very effective. A strip of cloth of paper is pressed over the
wax and the strip is then pulled quickly away, taking the hairs out with it. This process can be done either at
home or by a professional. It can be a messy process and there is chance of the hair breaking off at or below the
surface. It is very important to be careful to avoid infection or burning the skin if the wax is too hot. Common
areas which are waxed are eyebrows, upper lip, chin, back, legs, and bikini area. A trick that I have discovered
for after waxing is to apply aloe vera lotion to the area waxed after to help remove excess wax and to keep the
irritation at a minimum.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is a permanent form of hair removal. I have seen people who have had this treatment and the
results were excellent. Highly controlled flashes of laser beams are absorbed into the hair follicles below the
skin’s surface. The light heats the hair which damages and destroys the hair follicle making it impossible to
regrow. You do not need to worry though, this will not destroy the surrounding tissue. Because hair follicles grow
in different cycles and at different times, several treatments over several months are necessary to be sure that
all hair follicles have been destroyed. This is a permanent method. Unlike shaving, waxing, and creams, you will
not need to continue laser hair removal over the rest of your life. After the initial few months, you will be
hair-free forever. I have seen in some people however that laser hair removal should be done yearly for
maintenance.
